Take It Back!!!
My story:
For the first twenty years of my life, I was the posterboy for the overwheling epidemic of obestiy that we face in our country today. I was almost 350 lbs, and had almost accepted the fact that this was the way things were supposed to be for me. My life had gotten terribly out of control, and I avoided mirrors at all cost. A trip to the doctor revealed that my blood pressure had become and issue and that serious health problems and early death were possible as a result of the condition I was in. So, one day, I stared on the mirror for a long, long time, and decided that what I saw was no longer acceptable. After that. I started to read everything I could get my hands on about fitness and nutrition. All of the new information was so empowering, that pretty soon, I stopped thinking like a fat guy and developed the mindset of a fit person. When that change happened, the changes in my body were just a matter of time. I stopped being a spectator in my life and I took it back!!! Every area of my life has since imporved. I learned so much and developed such a passion; I then became a Certified Personal Trainer!
Diet principles:
I didn't follow any radical diet principles along the way, just good, solid nutrition. I learned about the role of blood glucose and insulin levels on the body's tendancy to store fat, and ate in a manner that stabalized my blood glucose levels and prevented spikes in insulin level. All while eating a diet that was high in protein, but did not exclude either of the other macronutrients.
Exercise principles:
Intensity is far more important than duration!!! You will get so much more benefit from doing 30-45 minutes of intense exercise than from 2 hours of nonsense in the gym. Sets, reps, training splits...all of these things are secondary to training intensity. Exercise purposefully!
